Cockle Club Update 21/08/22

Dear Cockle Club members
The Cruise in Company to Cley Quay last Sunday was a great success and the very high tide brought the boats right onto the quay; it was rather hot too. Simon, Mike and the catering team at Cley provided a warm welcome and did a fantastic job providing bacon butties, teas or coffees. We are indebted to them for their hospitality; we all had a splendid time. We were joined on the trip from Morston to Cley by some keen Cley residents and on the Quay by lots of locals. Mike and Simon spoke briefly about the Cley Harbour project and the significant progress they have made in the last twelve months. Look out for the date for this popular event in 2023 to which all members are welcome.
Next Sunday and bank holiday Monday, 28th and 29th August is Blakeney Regatta organised by Blakeney Sailing Club, open to all-comers.  Set your alarm clocks because the first start on Sunday is at 07.30 (you’ll still be in time for church) and on Monday is 08.00. High water is predicted at 08.12, 8.4m on Sunday and 08.46 8.5m on Monday. The starts on both days will be from the bank in Blakeney cut and the finishes on both days will be at Sims posts. To enter and get the course you must pay your subs on the bank on the day. These events are alway jolly good fun and an early start is guaranteed to be stimulating.
We have two social events approaching. First is a possible cruise around Agar Creek on Wednesday 14th September. It’s a big tide with high water at 09.00. This is highly weather dependant and will require an outboard motor (and fuel) and so is yet to be confirmed. Please await joining instructions.
On Saturday 24th September we have booked Morston Village Hall for Quiz and Chips. This event is always great fun and more details and the chance to book will be sent out soon.
Looking a bit further ahead the club AGM is at Morston Village Hall at 10.30 on Saturday 12th November. All members are welcome. The end of season Laying Up Supper is on the same day in the evening but the new tenants of The Anchor are unable to commit to this date for us so we will be looking for another venue. More details very soon.
Very best wishes to you all
